Some minor notes regarding the Jets roster this week.
Reserve linebacker Julian Stanford was released by the Jets, Friday. Last season, Stanford contributed just 1 special teams tackles and 2 assists according to NFL GSIS. He also did not play much on defense with David Harris and Darron Lee taking up most of the snaps.
Stanford finished the season with an ankle injury and landed on Injured Reserve. With the Jets releasing him now, it likely means he requires a significant surgery and would have a hard time making the roster.
With the draft right around the corner, the Jets were also close to the 90 man roster limit. They currently have 80+ players on the roster and if they were to acquire more draft picks, they would inevitably need to cut some players.
Also of note, CB Nick Marshall is the third Jet who will start the season suspended. He joins Jalin Marshall and Austin Seferian-Jenkins. With both Marshall’s riding the bench for the first four games, their job security is rather flimsy at the moment. The Jets could easily add a WR and CB in the draft, pushing both out the door. Additionally, with a competition at almost every position in camp looming undrafted free agents factor in as well.
