For the second time in three years, the Jets had one of – if not the best player in the draft fall into their lap. The Jets sat tight at six and selected LSU safety Jamal Adams.
The Jets certainly did not think Adams would fall to them…
…but when he did, the draft room must have been giddy. They got their guy.
With Adams now in the fold, is Calvin Pryor destined to be traded. The Jets have not picked up Calvin Pryor’s fifth year option. Todd Bowles stated that safeties are interchangeable in his defense. Adams has better cover skills than Pryor, so in theory they could pair together this season. However, Adams and Pryor really play the same role.
Odds are the Jets will try to trade Pryor over the next two days. Similar to the Buccaneers trade of Mark Barron a few years ago, the Jets could recoup a 4th and 6th round selection. Teams to keep an eye on that could trade for Pryor: the Cowboys, Redskins, Browns and Packers.
In all likelihood, Pryor will stay with the Jets and Bowles will try to utilize him as a big nickel/ linebacker with Adams and Gilchrist over the top.
